Obituary: William John Money, 1932-2011

John Money, who died in May 2011, was the longest-serving editor of Urban Studies in the journal's history. John served, without interruption, as Editor, Managing Editor and Board Member for 25 years from 1972 until his retirement from the journal in 1996. During that time, Urban Studies grew from a well-respected journal of three issues a year, from its inception in 1964, to an internationally renowned journal issued ten times a year, and from 400 pages to 1800 pages per volume. In an era when journal editors come and go in short order, their efforts often unrecognised in terms of promotion, John's commitment to the journal over such a long period was exceptional.
