Australian Local Government Economics

This is an important book because the pre-existing literature on local government economics in Australia is at best thin. Although the book focuses squarely on the Australian context, one of the strengths of the analysis is that the authors have the background to be able to locate the key issues and debates within an international context with reference to British, American and also some non-Anglo examples. However, the main focus of the book is on Australian conditions with examples being drawn from across the states, and with important differences highlighted where necessary. Compared with much of the literature on local government in Australia, the international and national comparisons add significantly to the book's authority and in turn generate greater confidence in its findings.
