Adnoc Drilling sets sights on next expansion phase

ADNOC Drilling has set out an ambitious agenda for the next few years as it looks to expand beyond its traditional role as the drilling unit of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc). The company continues to build its rig fleet and capabilities as part of several years' evolution from rig provider with a single client to a full-service drilling contractor and service provider that can go head to head with long-established companies operating in the Middle East. The parent company's production ambitions alone will keep Adnoc Drilling busy for some time, as Adnoc aims to boost its oil production to nearly 5 million barrels per day by the end of the decade and to produce enough gas to meet all of the emirate's growing domestic demand. Natural gas self-sufficiency is an especially tall order.Even though the United Arab Emirates hold some 273 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves - and 160 Tcf of recoverable unconventional gas resources, Adnoc says - much of it is technically challenging and expensive to produce.
