Award in topsides dispute

THE Petronas-led Kebabangan Petroleum Operating Company (KPOC) has been awarded damages in a legal dispute with Malaysia Marine & Heavy Engineering (MMHE). In March 2019, KPOC filed a claim against MMHE over allegedly defective valves on the topsides of the Kebabangan offshore platform. It claimed breach of contract and said it had suffered substantial loss and damage. MMHE's workscope involved the construction, engineering, procurement, fabrication, inspection, testing and pre-commissioning, as well as loadout and sea-fastening, of the topsides, which were delivered to KPOC in 2014.KPOC's original claim of 125.1 million ringgit ($29.6 million) was later reduced to 58.9 million ringgit.
