THE US has named one of the two military leaders of a March attack on Palma, Mozambique, by Islamist insurgents that led to TotalEnergies declaring force majeure a month later on its huge onshore liquefied natural gas project. Secretary of State Antony Blinken branded Bonomade Machude Omar as one of the insurgency's figureheads and a major mover and shaker in the Cabo Delgado insurgency. Also known by the names Abu Sulayfa Muhammad and Ibn Omar, the State Department said he "leads the military and external affairs departments for ISIS-Mozambique".Omar also serves as the senior commander and lead coordinator for all attacks conducted by the group in northern Mozambique, as well as the lead facilitator and communications conduit for the group", said the US government.
