摘要

THE Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report published this week has thrown fuel on an already heated debate ahead of Norway's parliamentary elections next month. Demands for climate action have led to increasing resistance to any "business as normal" approach to oil and gas production, but it is not yet clear whether this will have a direct impact on the country's output. Media commentators and environmental groups seem to agree that Norway needs to stop new oil and gas exploration outright, but it is unclear how much public opinion is moving this way.The Green Party and others advocating strong curbs on the petroleum sector believe they can secure more votes amid the clamour to stop oil and gas extraction.
