QATAR Petroleum (QP) has received offers for double the equity it plans to hand out to international players in the first phase of its giant North Field Expansion project. Chief executive Saad Sherida al Kaabi said this week that the company is "evaluating commercial offers" it has received for participation in a development that has capacity of 32 million tonnes per annum of liquefied natural gas. "QP has received offers that cover double the offered equity stake," Kaabi said, without naming any of the potential partners or the equity percentage being offered in the stake sale process. The first expansion phase - called North Field East - is valued at $28.75 billion and aims to ramp up output at the field to 110 million tpa by the middle of this decade, from the present nameplate capacity of 77 million tpa.
