SBM's Deep Panuke unit set to be sold for scrap

DUTCH contractor SBM Offshore has decided to scrap its Deep Panuke production platform after it was removed last month -years earlier than expected -from a poorly performing Ovin-tiv-operated gas field off eastern Canada. Owned by SBM, the jack-up-based production facility was shut down in mid-2018, far earlier than expected due to reservoir problems on the Deep Panuke field off Nova Scotia. "During the next phase of the project, the platform will be prepared for transport to a recycling yard," SBM said in its results statement late last week, stressing that "yard selection is planned for second half of this year". The company said that "a prerequisite for awarding the contract... will be an audit to confirm the yard's ability to operate within the company's policy and meet relevant external guidelines".
