TWO big-hitting contracting rivals competing for a large turnkey contract linked to the Shwe phase three project in Myanmar will have to wait until next year to learn which is the winner after operator Posco International flagged up a delay to the project. McDermott International of the US is one of the competitors, while a pairing of South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries with Doris Engineering of France is the other. The two rivals have submitted competing front-end engineering and design studies, with Posco currently evaluating the parellel offerings. The South Korean operator will then decide which of the two FEED contractors will be retained for the lucrative engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract. However, the contract award will not be this year as previously thought.
