LNG sales fall for Novatek

LIQUEFIED natural gas cargoes from the Novatek-led Yamal LNG project in Russia dropped by nearly a third in the first half of 2020 due to a slump in demand amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Deliveries of gas from the port of Sabetta on the Yamal Peninsula amounted to almost 5 billion cubic metres between January and June, down more than 30% against the same period of 2019, Novatek said. In the second quarter, Yamal LNG shipped about 2.5 Bern of gas to international markets in the form of LNG, a decline of more than 32% compared with the second quarter of 2019. Spot LNG sales were the hardest hit, it said, while deliveries under long-term contracts to customers - located mostly in Japan - actually increased.
