Apache plans Suriname wells after fresh find

APACHE Corporation and block partner Total have set their sights on more exploration drilling offshore Suriname after the pair came up trumps with a new oil discovery.The companies made what US independent Apache late last week terms a "significant" oil discovery at the Sapakara West-1 wildcat on Block 58.That find followed hard on the heels of the Maka Central discovery, which was announced in January on the same tract.Sapakara West-l was drilled to a depth of approximately 6300 metres using the drillship Noble Sam Croft.Apache said the well successfully tested for the presence of hydrocarbons in multiple stacked targets in the Upper Cretaceous-aged Campanian and San-tonian intervals.Total also confirmed the discovery, with senior vice president of exploration, Kevin McLachlan, saying: "The results are once again very encouraging and confirm our exploration strategy in this region."
