EACOP pipeline in play

CONSTRUCTION of the proposed $3.5 billion East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), which is key to Uganda's plans to develop its giant oilfields, may start in April 2021, according to Tanzanian Energy Minister Medard Kale-mani. The 1445-kilometre trunkline is set to transport production from Uganda's Albertine Graben oilfields to the Indian Ocean port of Tanga in Tanzania. The forthcoming financial year must see completion of the Host Government Agreements in Uganda and Tanzania and agreements with shareholders - including French supermajor Total - and for the leasing of land and port facilities, Kalemani told the National Assembly in Dodoma.
