ELEVEN state attorneys general across the US have joined a growing call for federal regulators to halt approvals of natural gas pipelines and export projects during the Covid-19 pandemic. In a letter last week sent to US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc) chairman Neil Chatterjee, the attorneys general, led by Maryland's top prosecutor Brian Frosh, asked for the agency to immediately declare a moratorium on project approvals. Doing so would preserve the rights of stakeholders who may not have the ability to participate in the public review process because of illness or restricted access because of Covid-19, they argued.
