GDI and Seadrill team up

QATAR'S Gulf Drilling International (GDI) and Seadrill have teamed up in a joint venture that will put jack-ups to work on Qatar Petroleum (QP)'s giant North Field Expansion (NFE) liquefied natural gas project off the country, writes Eoin O'Cinneide. GulfDrill, the 50:50 enterprise between the two drillers, will initially manage and operate five jack-ups for QP, with the deals beginning at various times throughout next year. In early May, QP awarded six jack-up charter deals to GDI for work on NFE, with two more going to Houston-based Northern Offshore Drilling.
