Critics hit out at US anti-graft rule plans

THE US Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) has been urged by anti-poverty campaigner ONE and the US chapter of Publish-What-You-Pay (PWYP) to extend the period for stakeholders to comment on a proposed rule designed to deter graft in the extractive industries. Activists and civil society groups have agitated for the rule guiding implementation of disclosure obligations under the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform & Consumer Protection Act to be strong, detailed and to clearly require project-level reporting of all payments to host governments.
