US companies cut workers

OILFIELD services companies announced layoffs and furloughs over the past week as a result of the recent oil price rout and uncertain market conditions related to the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. Pressure pumper FTS International on 23 March said it was imposing a furlough — a temporary leave of employment measure — on crews and related support staff that no longer have scheduled work and related support staff. The company also last week laid off 35 workers in Texas, according to the state's workforce commission.
