摘要

REGULATORS, government and industry active in Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada are pooling their knowledge to come up with a strategy to prevent a recurrence of a recent batch of offshore oil spills. The Canada-Newfoundland & Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (CNLOPB) is continuing formal investigations into four spills — totalling about 265,000 litres of oil and 28,000 litres of drilling mud — over the last 20 months. Decisions on enforcement actions will be taken after these investigations have ended. Based on its initial findings, CNLOPB's chief conservation officer Jeff O'Keefe identified four priority areas for industry to address.
