MORE resources than expected have been found at the Colter prospect off southern UK, according to project partner United Oil & Gas (UOG). The Colter appraisal well, which was drilled by the jack-up rig Ensco 72 in the Wes-sex basin on the P1918 licence, is an appraisal of a 1986 discovery by British Gas. The offshore 98/11a-6 well, drilled by operator Corallian Energy, reached a total depth of 1870 metres in the Sherwood Sandstone, but hit an additional hydrocarbon structure. "The 98/11a-6 well unexpectedly remained on the southern side of the Colter prospect bounding fault but encountered oil and gas shows over a 9.4-metre interval at the top of the Sherwood Sandstone reservoir, a separate discovery to the original appraisal target," UOG said.
