Unmanned underwater vehicles and unmanned surface vessels have been slow to attract attention from navies. These systems did not benefit from the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan anywhere near as much as their airborne counterparts did. Purchases of unmanned aircraft soared as the U.S., and its allies rapidly increased their inventories to meet battlefield needs. Unmanned ground vehicles also saw a surge in procurement. This was not the case with UUVs and USVs.
