New Jersey Governor Chris Christie killed the Access to the Region's Core (ARC) tunnel project on 27 October over the risk of covering cost overruns. Also known as the Trans-Hudson Express Tunnel, the USD 8.7bn ARC tunnel would have been the second commuter rail line to connect New Jersey to Manhattan. The project called for two, 6.5-km, single-track tunnels under the Hudson River-bringing some 6000 jobs to the state of New Jersey and doubling the number of trains travelling into the city daily.
