UK FRACKING EXPERTS CALL FOR MORE EXPLORATION

Experts have urged the government to open up a licensing round for shale gas exploration in order to accurately predict the potential for future development. Giving evidence to the House of Lords Select Committee on Economic Affairs, academics, energy companies and other experts told the hearing that there are currently too many unknowns to accurately estimate the potential effects of hydraulic fracturing on the UK economy."At the moment government policy should be focussing on creating a scheme that encourages a significant degree of exploration, even if that means having a special licensing regime to get it going," said Professor Alan Riley of City University, a specialist in both competition and energy law.
