Patenting for the research scientist-bridging the cultural divide

Applying for patents on behalf of scientists in research institutions is an absorbing and chal- lenging experience. In this context, a scientist is one motivated to pursue discoveries primarily in order to publish results in a scientific journal. This does not ]reflect on the many scientists working in industry with the practical objective of devising or improving indus- trial processes and products. Indeed, when industrial researchers collaborate with academics, and are dis- cussing the science, it is often difficult to tell them apart.
