On Dec. 10, NASSCO hosted its second annual NASSCO Fly-In on Capitol Hill. Headed up by NASSCO's Government Relations Consultant, Steve Dye, 10 individuals comprised of NASSCO members, Board, Technical Advisory Council and staff met the night before to strategize objectives. The main goal of the visit to Washington, D.C. was to build awareness of the importance of funding underground infrastructure and, specifically, to reauthorize and increase funding through the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (SRF). The passing of the bi-partisan HR 1497, the Water Quality Protection and Jobs Creation Act of 2019, could result in $14 billion over five years to support the Clean Water SRF Program. During the full day of meetings, NASSCO members, in this case presenting themselves as local constituents, met with representatives from their home states which included Florida, Michigan, New York and Texas. In preparation for the meetings NASSCO produced an informative, four-minute video that explained NASSCO and the need to develop comprehensive asset management programs through consistent assessment and inspection, culminating with NASSCO's official policy recommendations to keep underground infrastructure healthy.
