Compared with a smooth solid rotor, the slotted solid rotor in a high-speed dual stator slotted solid-rotor axial-flux induction motor (SSRAIM) improves the performance. To summarize the influence of slots on performances by 2-D finite-element method (FEM), a multislice method is applied, which simplify the 3-D electromagnetic field distribution (EFD) in SSRAIM into the 2-D EFD in a finite set of double primary slotted steel secondary linear induction motors. Also, based on the multilayer method and the surface impedance theory, an improved equivalent-circuit model (IECM) is derived, which considers the coupling relationship between the upper and lower stator windings and the nonlinear permeability of slotted solid rotor. The performances of a 5-kW, 7300-r/min prototype are analyzed by the IECM, the FEM, and the experimental test. The comparisons show that the accuracy of the IECM is satisfactory.
