Trucks with gross weights from six to 16 tonnes gvw may lack the glamour of long-haul 40-tonnes gcw tractors, but this is a sector of the market that manufacturers belittle at their peril. Renault VI has been boning up on the subject in preparation for the unveiling at the Amsterdam show last month of its new Midlum range of "medium-duty" two-axle rigid trucks (Transport Engineer February) and has discovered that around one third of all trucks over five tonnes gvw in Europe are in the six-16 tonnes bracket, most of them used in distribution, building and construction.
