Further to my comments on the Don-Bur Teardrop design (Transport Engineer November 2007) I would like to thank Mr Owens and Mr McDonald for their responses (Transport Engineer December 2007). My knowledge of aerofoils is derived from pilot training and 20 years of studying aircraft designs. I accept that there are differences between wings and trucks, but since the subject of aerodynamics was the basis of the Teardrop design and a unique selling proposition I felt points needed to be raised. Mr Owens says that DHL has run some trials, but they were against a standard four-metre high trailer with no frontal lobe. I acknowledge that this alone would make a significant difference.
