Glenelg Tram Upgrade Project

Information on the new trams and the upgrade of the Glenelg line was steadily becoming available as the project gathered pace in October. New Trams As reported briefly last issue, a $47.4 million contract was to be signed between the SA Government and Bombardier Transportation Australia for nine new Flexity Classic trams (similar to Frankfurt S type). Delivery of the first tram is expected in December 2005 with the remainder of the fleet due to be fully in service by July 2006. A combination of the new and old trams will operate during this phase-in period and five of the 16 heritage H class trams will continue to have a tourist role on the line.
