Melbourne APC Project

As part of the Melbourne myki Smartcard project there has been a trial installation of Automatic People Counting (APC) equipment on some trams. For the initial test, Citadis 3019 from Kew Depot and Combino 3538 from Malvern Depot have been fitted with the equipment. The units are manufactured in France and two engineers came to Melbourne, fitted the equipment and did the initial tests with the Melbourne people. The equipment is in a strip across the top of the doorway and is fitted to all doors, the Citadis installation is neater, being almost un-noticeable, but cabling on the Combino was more difficult.
