Qapco and QP Formalize Proposal For Qapco 2 Project in Ras Laffan

Doha-Qatar Petrochemical Co. (Qapco) has "just signed an agreement" with Qatar Petroleum (QP) to develop and build Qapco 2 in Ras Laffan, Qatar, said Qapco Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Yousef Al Mulla said in a 21 May press release.Earlier this year, the two companies disclosed plans for a $5.5-billion petrochemical complex in Ras Laffan (PCN, 20 Feb 2012, p 1). The project, to be owned 20% by Qapcoand 80%; by QP, will be designed to produce 1.4-million t/y of ethylene, 850,000 t/y of high-density polyethylene, 430,000 t/y of linear low-density polyethylene, 760,000 t/y of polypropylene and 83,000 t/y of butadiene. The complex is expected to begin production in 2018.
