I refer to the letter by Mr A W Perry in the June 2008 TA re electro-pneumatic equipment on MMTB trams. The X2 class cars 675-680 were built with GE K36JR controllers with electro-pneumatic equipment with a pre-set voltage level below which the cars became inoperable. This equipment was removed in 1946-47 and the cars became direct control with line breaker equipment. The Y1 class cars 610-613 were built with GE K35JJ controllers with electro-pneumatic equipment with a pre-set voltage level and had the same problems as the X2 class cars and this equipment was removed in 1935 and the cars became direct control with line breaker equipment. L class car 106 was built with GE PC5 controllers and electric brakes and was converted to GE K35JJ controllers and air brakes at a date unknown, but possibly in the 1920s. W5 class cars 740-741 were built with Westinghouse 5 Notch multiple unit controllers and were converted to MMTB RC2 remote control controllers in 1948.
