Beijing Update

摘要

This report details information obtained and observations made during an assignment in Beijing between mid-September and the end of November 2007. It updates the report in the November 2006 issue of Transit Australia and the earlier article provides a reference point for the material presented here, namely: the opening of the Beijing Subway Line 5; ticketing and passenger flow improvements; an update on buses and trolleybuses; and future subway expansion. Line 5 opening:The 26.7 km north-south Line 5 opened on 7 October 2007.The line has 23 stations, including four interchange stations (with lines 1,2 and 13) and serves high-density housing developments in the Changping District to the north and the Fengtai District around the southern terminus at Songjiazhuang. The opening of Line 5 brought the route length of the Beijing Subway system to 142 km.
