It is interesting to note that the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority has sent out a letter, dated 2 March 2011, informing'customers'that the Demerits Point Scheme has been changed from 31 December 2010. Note that it is not even a consultation about planned changes. The deed has already been done. Aside from reducing the number of points deducted for such offences as not keeping to the left of an oncoming vehicle or overtaking when unsafe, which seems to send out the message that these offences, and others, are not so dangerous after all and it is really not that bad to break the law, it includes some decidedly anti-public transport'improvements'.
