The SA Government has received S2m of Commonwealth money to produce what is effectively a state transport plan, but nothing in S A is ever called that. Transport and Infrastructure Minister Mr Tom Koutsantonis, his predecessor Mr Pat Conlon and Premier Mr Jay Weatherill are all on the record as saying that South Australia does not need a transport plan. The Liberal Opposition has now announced that it will produce a transport plan if elected in March 2014. On 1 March Commonwealth Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Mr Anthony Albanese announced the provision of $2m to SA to 'help it align the transport and urban development of the future'. Mr Albanese said that the Integrated Transport and Movement study would allow SA to properly plan for growth. 'This study will help with future planning decisions as South Australia looks to further revitalise its road, rail, tram, and bus networks and closer integrate them with urban growth areas,' Mr Albanese said. A few days later a spokesperson for Mr Koutsantonis denied that the outcome of the study would be a transport plan. 'No. We have a 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide. This is a study within the frameworks set out in the 30-Year Plan.' In the official media release Mr Koutsantonis said that the study would 'formalise existing transport and infrastructure plans within the 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide'. Former Integrated Design Commissioner Mr Tim Horton was in no doubt about the nature of the study. 'An integrated transport plan for Greater Adelaide, good news', he stated.
