This is a wonderfully presented collection of black and white photographs, mostly from the camera of the late Ken Magor and mainly covering transport and people around Newcastle, NSW. The reproduction of the photographs is superb, demonstrating what can be achieved with digital technology. The coverage mainly consists of Newcastle trams, trains and buses with some ferry, vehicular and aircraft photos along with a vast array of people of the time going about their everyday business. In fact this latter shows exactly why people should be included in transport photographs as, in many cases, the people and clothing are just as interesting as the transport technology. This whole wonderful collection is somewhat spoiled by the failure to deliver, in the majority of cases, anything better than a one line caption with basic details. Readers should not worry too much about this as the photographs are still worth the cost of the book.
