The Christchurch City Council is the local government authority for Christchurch in New Zealand. It is a local government authority elected to represent the 368,000 people of Christchurch. The council consists of 13 councillors elected from seven wards, and is presided over by the Mayor, who is elected by all of the voters. On July 2013, following the two Christchurch earthquakes the NZ Government announced the appointment of Douglas Martin as the Crown Manager for Christchurch City Council's building consenting functions for 18 months.
