Shanghai Alstom Transport, SATCO, has received a contract from Shanghai Songjiang Tramway Investment and Operation to deliver 30 Citadis trams for the first two tramlines at Songjiang, one of the suburban districts of Shanghai. SATCO is a joint venture between Alstom and Shanghai Rail Traffic Equipment Development. Songjiang district is planning to build six lines that will cover a total of 800 km by 2020 and the first two lines, T1 and T2, will be 31 kms long and use the 30 trams and have 42 stations. This is the first project with Alstom Citadis technology in China. Scheduled to open in 2017, the first two lines are expected to carry 173,000 passengers a day. SATCO will build the Citadis trams, while Alstom will provide the traction systems, bogies and the train control and monitoring system.
