A public bus service was reintroduced to Canberra Airport on 20 March, operating seven days a week. The changes to Opal fares in September 2016 helped increase ticket revenue by almost 9% to nearly $28m a week, according to a media FOI request. Average revenue increased from $25.7m a week in the five weeks before the changes on 5 September 2016 to $27.9m a week in November. The average fare for a journey has risen by 6% to about $2.30. In the earlier period it was $2.16. One report attributed the 'revenue impact of [the] fare structure change' largely to a rise of about 12% in patronage on ferries and light rail, while patronage on trains and buses rose by between 1 and 2%. TfNSW said that cyclical fluctuations and other factors meant comparing revenue figures for different months was statistically invalid.
