摘要

A second law analysis as proposed by Bejan has become an accepted method for evaluating thermodynamic efficiency of any process in terms of lost work. While literature is available on second law analysis of heat and momentum transfer operations, the same of heat, mass and momentum transfer is scanty. Nondimensional equations to evaluate total entropy generated during a solvent extraction process were developed and the parameters controlling the process were identified. Effects of the parameters were discussed. The study was conducted using rice bran as source of oil and hexane as solvent. Critical values of Reynolds and Schmidt numbers were obtained for efficient extractor operation.
