I don't want to write you a 'COVID-response-by-numbers'. The one that tells you that these are unprecedented times, that we are all playing our part, that income is down, but there are opportunities to be found and we'll see you on the other side. I think we've all had enough of those.Instead, I want to take a longer and closer view at what this pandemic might mean for the parish church.On 27 March, without consultation, the Archbishops and Bishops of the Church of England issued an instruction to all clergy, "Our church buildings must now be closed not only for public worship, but for private prayer as well, and this includes the priest or layperson offering prayer in church on their own."
