The MFFP is the first Type B(U)F package proposed for transport of Mixed Uranium- condition, due to the increase in crush strength of the foam with decreasing temperature. Some of the certification testing involves puncture impacts on the top end impact limiter skin, where it will be shown that the puncture bar does not perforate the skin. In addition, the top impact limiter provides thermal protection to the package seals. For puncture, the cold foam case is governing over the warm foam case, as demonstrated by a finite element model. The model consisted of a layer of foam topped by a plate of Type 304 stainless steel, 0.25 inches thick. The primary means of recording the results of the certification testing will be physical measurements, high speed film, and observations of the post-test CTU and its contents.
