U-Pu-Zr metallic fuel alloys have been proposed as candidate fuel material for the sodium fast reactor applications. Sodium was considered as the bonding material between the fuel and the cladding. Although sodium has outstanding heat transfer properties and chemical stability, it does not provide a barrier against metallurgical interaction between the metal fuel and the clad.
