Online Education and Prior Learning Assessment - Powerful Combination to Develop Degreed Workers

In 2003 anticipating future workforce shortages, the nuclear members approached EPCE, facilitated by the Council for Adult & Experiential Learning (CAEL), to address the nuclear industry's various challenges related to workforce training through online education. Recently, Ray Henry of the Associated Press reported that new nuclear plans would create a need for 12,000 to 21,000 new workers'^. It is also well know that approximately one-half of today's nuclear workers will be eligible for retirement in five years, compounding the need. To cope with the demand, the industry, through the Nuclear Uniform Curriculum Program (NUCP), is standardizing nuclear curriculum designed for colleges to provide education to create a pool of new nuclear workers.
