Study on pulse-power charged all-solid-state battery for radioisotope battery

摘要

Radioisotope batteries use to obtain electrical energy by transforming from radiation to electrical energy [1]. The radiation emitted from the isotope creates free electrons and holes in the pn-junction semiconductor. The free electrons cross the pn-junction generate an electrical current. However, the isotope batteries need to combine energy storage devices to accumulate the electrical energy because the electrical energy from the isotope battery is in the form of an extremely small current. All-solid state batteries for the isotope battery have several advantages, such as high stability and low self-discharge, comparing with lithium polymer battery having liquid electrolyte. Besides, there are many applications such as the current booster devices [2] that would create pulses a few times in a day for a long-lived battery.
