Coupled CFD-DEM Analysis of Molten Salt-Cooled Pebble-Bed Reactor Experiment

摘要

Using Star CCM+, a two-way coupled CFD-DEM system has been simulated. The PREX experiment studied at UCB was chosen as the particular system of interest due to its applicability to future research expansions foreseen by the author. Star CCM+ has been shown to produce results of pressure drop and average bulk void fractions in line with previous data (experimental and simulated) and theoretical void fraction limits. The simulation was capable of adequately handling 8,300 DEM pebbles, therefore the expansion of the geometry to a larger system such as the TMSR-SF1 is considered achievable, taking into consideration that only a single 8-core CPU was used for computation of the current simulation, and more powerful compute resources are readily available.
