The invention relates to a nuclear reactor installation having a gas-cooled pebble-bed nuclear reactor, a plurality of main steam generators and main circulators, and having a number of auxiliary steam generators and auxiliary circulators, which installation can be used for relatively high outputs and is highly secure. All the components are installed in a prestressed concrete pressure vessel. The nuclear reactor and the main steam generator are located in a large central cavity, the latter being shielded from the nuclear reactor by a thermal side shield. The header and distributor system for the main steam generator extends in each case as far as into a vertical penetration in the pressure vessel closure head, which is sealed by two steel closure heads arranged one below another. The main circulators and the auxiliary circulators are accommodated in horizontal penetrations in the cylindrical pressure vessel wall. The auxiliary heat exchangers can be installed in vertical penetrations in the pressure vessel bottom.
