York - managing UTMC for success

The implementation of the York UTMC system was a complex and demanding project not only involving in-troducing new IT technologies to traffic projects but also extending the scope of network management beyond any previously deployed. Fundamental to the success of the project were clear objectives and a drive to succeed that went beyond the UTMC demonstration project but into the future, to how the city wanted to manage its network. This required development of a system that could be used to manage both transport and air quality, that would collect and integrate data to provide information for managers, technical staff and travellers.
