Managing the environment through a UTMC platform

The conclusions of this review are threefold. 1. UTMC exists as a framework for technology integration in the traffic management area. Its principles of construction, and indeed some of its current content, make it well suited to meeting key environmental objectives in monitoring, management and transport control. 2. The current state of UTMC environmental capability, both in the Specification and in terms of market deployment, is considerably less well developed than they could be. Initiatives such as TIF and the current LTP2 round of projects provide a key opportunity here. 3. Some specific possibilities have been identified as potentially valuable. These require actual project action if they are to be realised. The national initiative would welcome approaches from UTMC users around the country who are interested in progressing these areas.
