The European Court of Justice has ruled that a Dutch brewery may have the right to the trademark BAVARIA, despite opposition from a group of Bavarian brewers.rnThe court ruled that even though "Bayerisches Bier" or "Bavarian Beer" won protected geographical indication in 2001, the Dutch brewery could continue to use the name because it had done so since 1925 - 65 years before the EU's PGI law came into effect.
