Cities and the Politics of Difference: Multiculturalism and Diversity in Urban Planning

The edited collection Cities and the Politics of Difference broadens our understanding of diversity in urban planning with reference to the controversial debate on multiculturalism. The book unpacks some of the common stereotypes, misconceptions and objectives of the politics of cities in managing diversity, which are being investigated in the wider field of urban studies. The contributors bring forward the debate on diversity from the perspective of urban planning while addressing changing cities, which are becoming socially diverse conglomerations, predominandy majority-minority cities (where whites are outnumbered by non-white ethnicities). Altogether, the authors present the forms of the politics of difference that will comprise the twenty-first-century 'diversity agenda' in planning.
