In its submission to the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform's consultation, the TCPA broadly welcomed the Draft UK Renewable Energy Strategy launched in June 2008, as representing a positive step forward in tackling climate change in the energy sector. In particular TCPA supported and agreed that the approach to renewable energy delivery in the same way as housing through regional targets is a sensible approach, that equipping local authorities with the necessary skills and tools will be vital to ensure that the system works, and that an independent body dedicated to assisting local authorities and developers in planning for renewable energy and integrating considerations as part of the development process would be a useful asset in helping to deliver the Strategy's challenging targets.
